Treatment of cervical pathologies in Sumy

Cervical pathologies are often characterized by asymptomatic course, which complicates their early diagnostics. Some of them, in the absence of timely treatment, can lead to the development of oncological diseases of the cervix, so every woman should undergo a preventive examination by a gynecologist at least once a year.

Types of cervical pathologies

Types of cervical pathologies can be as follows:

  • cervical dysplasia (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia) - a disease characterized by increase in the number of atypical cells in the mucous membrane of the vaginal part of the cervix. Dysplasia is classified as a precancerous condition, but if the disease is detected at an early stage, it can be successfully treated;
  • cervical erosion. There are two types of erosion - true and false (cervical ectopia). True erosion is a discontinuity of the epithelium lining the cervix, as a result of injury or infectious disease. Much more common is pseudo-erosion – cervical ectopia. This is a normal physiological condition when the cylindrical epithelium lining the inner part of the cervix grows into its vaginal part;
  • cervical leukoplakia - a pathology characterized by the appearance of whitish plaques on the mucous membrane of the cervix due to keratinization and thickening of epithelial cells. Leukoplakia can lead to malignant degeneration of cells in the mucous membrane of cervix.

Signs of cervical pathologies in most cases are absent or very weak. Often, the disease is detected during a gynecological examination for another reason. The most common symptoms of cervical pathology include the following:

  • profuse whitish vaginal discharge;
  • small spotting after intercourse, using tampons;
  • painful sensations during sexual intercourse.

Causes of cervical pathologies

The occurrence of cervical pathologies is influenced by the following factors:

  • fluctuations in hormonal levels;
  • taking oral contraceptives;
  • pregnancy;
  • carriage of human papillomavirus (HPV) of high oncogenic risk - HPV-16, HPV-18;
  • decreased immunity;
  • smoking;
  • early sexual activity and childbirth;
  • infectious and inflammatory processes in pelvic organs;
  • traumatic injury of cervix.

Diagnostics of cervical pathologies

The first stage in diagnosing the cervical pathologies is a consultation by gynecologist. After examining the patient's history, the doctor examines her in a chair using gynecological mirrors. To clarify the diagnosis, the gynecologist refers to the following diagnostic examinations:

  • PAP test (smear for cytology) - detects the presence of precancerous or cancerous cells of the cervix;
  • blood test for hormones;
  • colposcopy - examination of vagina and cervix under 30x optical magnification. During extended colposcopy, the cervix is treated with special solutions (acetic acid, Lugol) to determine the exact boundaries of the pathologically altered tissue. During colposcopy, a tissue sample may be taken for histological examination. Colposcopy in Sumy can be done at the medical center “On Clinic Sumy”;
  • smear from the cervix for flora and genital infections;
  • PCR test for HPV-16 and HPV-18.

The tactics of treating cervical pathologies depends on the cause of the disease and the degree of its severity. Therapy can be both conservative (taking immunomodulators, anti-inflammatory drugs in the presence of infection) and surgical. For the treatment of cervical diseases, effective minimally invasive technique of radio wave surgery is used.
