Treatment of stenocardia in Cherkasy

Stenocardia is a clinical syndrome of cardiovascular disease and is characterized by chest pain. Stenocardia develops as a result of narrowing of the cardiac vessel patency. Timely diagnosis and treatment of stenocardia allows avoiding the risk of developing myocardial infarction.

What is stenocardia?

Stenocardia occurs when the myocardium (heart muscle) lacks oxygen. The reason for stenocardia development lies in the fact that the arteries clogged with cholesterol plaques and fats cannot deliver the required amount of oxygen to the heart. Therefore, oxygen starvation of heart cells and their spasm occurs.

Stenocardia occurs initially with physical exertion. This is the so-called stable stenocardia when a possible attack can be relatively accurately predicted, since it usually occurs when walking, running, going upstairs, in stressful situations, when the heart's need for oxygen increases, but the vessels cannot provide it. Another type of stenocardia is unstable; it occurs with further progression of ishemic artery disease and further vessel constriction. In this case, stenocardia attacks occur at rest, become more intense and prolonged.

Stenocardia - symptoms and treatment

The main symptom of stenocardia is paroxysmal heart pain, but other manifestations are also possible:

  • feeling of squeezing in the chest;
  • soreness in the left shoulder or arm;
  • air hunger;
  • pressure increase;
  • fast or slow heart rate.

All of these symptoms often subside at rest within 3-5 minutes. Sometimes the stenocardia attack can prolong and cause formation of a blood clot on the surface of the artery affected by atherosclerosis. In this case, the vessel patency is completely blocked and, in case of untimely provision of medical care, myocardial infarction is possible. Therefore, the treatment aimed at reducing the number and duration of attacks is required in case of stenocardia symptoms.

What should not be done in case of stenocardia?

In case of stenocardia, the onset of pain cannot be ignored. If an attack has begun, it is necessary to stop it as soon as possible:

  • stop physical activity;
  • sit down;
  • take a nitroglycerin pill under the tongue;
  • if the pain lasts more than 5 minutes, call an ambulance.

After the attack has passed, you need to see a doctor to diagnose the cardiovascular system and prescribe treatment. In the medical center "ON Clinic Cherkasy" conservative treatment of stenocardia is carried out aimed at improving the quality of life of patients, preventing further atherosclerotic vascular lesions and reducing the risk of myocardial infarction.
