Treatment of seborrhea and seborrheic dermatitis in Cherkasy

Seborrheic dermatitis (seborrhea) is one of the most common skin diseases. According to WHO statistics, its mild clinical degree - dandruff - is observed in more than 20% of people. Symptoms of seborrhea include a pronounced itching of the scalp, its peeling, and inflammation. The ailment is well treatable but prone to recurrence.

What are seborrhea and seborrheic dermatitis??

This is a chronic inflammatory disease in which the scalp is affected due to the pathogenic activity of yeast-like fungi (Malassezia). The causes of seborrheic dermatitis are genetically mediated hyperfunction of the sebaceous glands or changes in the functioning of these glands, triggered by diseases of the internal organs: the digestive tract, immunity, endocrine system and other. The body's defenses against diseases cannot fully suppress the growth of colonies of microorganisms that produce substances that irritate the skin and reduce its barrier function.

Dermatologists believe that the causes of or exacerbation of seborrhea of the scalp may be:

  • weakened immunity;
  • psycho-emotional overload;
  • some medications;
  • cardiovascular pathologies (heart attack, ischemic heart disease, etc.);
  • diseases of the nervous system (Parkinson’s disease, paralysis of cranial nerves, etc.);
  • presence of other skin conditions (rosacea);
  • bad habits (alcoholism, etc.);
  • puberty.

Clinical manifestation of the disease is expressed in the formation of areas of flaky red skin, accompanied by itching and hair loss. At a later stage, areas of the affected epidermis are transformed into erythematous spots, covered with a layer of scales or hemorrhagic crusts due to scratching. Further, the disease spreads to the skin of the forehead, the area of the ears and the neck, after which the formation of papules is observed; this is the result of the infiltration of erythematous spots.

According to the nature of symptoms in dermatology, such basic forms of seborrheic dermatitis are distinguished as:

  • oily seborrhea, in which hyperfunction of the sebaceous glands causes the abundant formation of coarse dandruff on the background of excessive fat and thinning hair;
  • dry seborrhea, accompanied by pronounced itching and dry skin, as well as brittle hair;
  • mixed form, combining defeat areas of the scalp with various forms of the disease.
