Otoplasty in Kharkiv
Otoplasty is an operation aimed at correcting the shape, size and symmetry of the auricles.
There are two types of otoplasty, which differ depending on the purpose of the operation:
- aesthetic otoplasty - allows correcting the size and shape of the ears, correct their asymmetry, eliminate protruding ears;
- reparative otoplasty - aimed at restoring the aesthetic appearance of auricle after injuries and burns. It can also be used to correct congenital malformations of the ears.
This is one of the least traumatic plastic surgeries, so it can be performed under local anesthesia. Traces of auricle plastics are not visible, since surgical procedures are performed behind the ear.
Indications for otoplasty
Indications for ear plastic surgery are protruding ears (excessive protrusion of the ears) and curvature of the ear (congenital or post-traumatic).
Otoplasty can also be performed to reduce the size of the ears so that their size is proportional to the size of the head. You can find out the price of ear surgery in Kharkiv at the medical center “ON Clinic Kharkiv” during the visit to a plastic surgeon.
The procedure of otoplasty?
The surgery for ears shape correction is preceded by a consultation by a plastic surgeon. Then the patient undergoes a standard preoperative examination, which includes:
- coagulogram;
- clinical blood test;
- test for antibodies to HIV;
- test for hepatitis B and C viruses;
- electrocardiogram (ECG);
- enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for Covid-19 (IgM antibodies).
The examination shall be carried out 48 hours before the planned operation.
The patient must not eat or drink two hours before otoplasty. Surgical correction of protruding ears is carried out in three stages: first, a plastic surgeon makes a small incision in the skin behind the auricle, then removes excess cartilaginous tissue and creates a new form of ear antihelix. Sutures are applied to the skin behind the ear. At the end of operation, the ears are fixed with a special compression bandage.
During the surgical treatment of protruding ears in Kharkiv in the medical center “ON Clinic Kharkiv”, local anesthesia is used, but at the request of the patient, it can be replaced with intravenous anesthesia. The operation takes one and a half to two hours. Within one hour after otoplasty, the patient is in the ward under the supervision of the medical staff, and then, provided that he/she feels well, can be discharged home.
Rehabilitation after otoplasty
For 10 days after ear surgery, the patient must wear a special fixation bandage that must not be removed. During this time, it is also forbidden to sleep sidewise and touch the ears. The period of complete rehabilitation after otoplasty lasts an average of three weeks.
