Treatment of myopia in Kharkiv
According to WHO statistics, one of the most common ophthalmic disorders is shortsightedness or myopia. It is detected in more than 1 billion people, i.e. almost every 8th person on Earth. Myopia is a person’s inability to see clearly objects located in the distance. The stronger the shortsightedness and the farther the subject is, the more blurred the image becomes.
Congenital myopia in children is rare.
There are two causes for this:
- lengthening of the eyeball resulting in image formation not on the retina, but in front of it;
- increased refractive power of the visual apparatus resulting in shift of the focus point.
Causes of myopia
The following factors contribute to the development of shortsightedness:
- genetic predisposition;
- high loads on the visual apparatus;
- reading in low light conditions;
- long-term focusing of the eyes at close range (occurs when working with gadgets, watching TV, reading books). Because of this, the eye muscles weaken causing the lengthening of the eyeball;
- adverse environmental conditions;
- eye injuries or failed surgical interventions.
Only ophthalmologist can establish accurately the cause of the disease after diagnosis.
Can myopia be cured?
Shortsightedness is responsive to correction with contact lenses or glasses; laser correction is possible to restore vision. Especially dangerous is progressive myopia, which intensifies over time. Because of this form of disorder, the patient can almost completely lose vision.
The progression of the disease is observed due to increased visual load and constant enlarging of the eyeball. This is usually associated with the growth of the body (for instance, shortsightedness often progresses in children), during the hormonal fluctuations periods (observed in adolescents). Patients diagnosed with shortsightedness should visit ophthalmologist regularly for disease control and timely treatment.
Shortsightedness treatment in children
Ophthalmic disorders quite often are manifested in childhood: this is due to the growth of the body (which increases the size of the eyeball), hormonal changes, high eye strain when working with gadgets and at school. It is recommended to visit clinic where myopia is treated if the child has started to do the following:
- narrow eyes;
- bring objects (textbooks, notebooks) close to the eyes;
- stoop at the table.
The ophthalmologist examines the child, prescribes treatment, and, if necessary, selects correction tools. Myopia in children responds well to hardware treatment: with the help of special simulators, you can strengthen the eye muscles and stop the progression of the disease.
Treatment and prevention of shortsightedness
Correctly selected means of correction allow patients with shortsightedness to lead a normal life without any discomfort. If the disease does not progress, it is not dangerous. However, it is recommended that you observe the following simple preventative recommendations:
- to take vitamin complexes regularly as ordered by a doctor;
- to perform eyes exercises;
- to relax eyes during high loads;
- to read in good light.
It is also recommended to visit ophthalmologist for the purpose of follow-up observation. You can undergo treatment of shortsightedness at the medical center "ON Clinic Kharkiv". We treat adults and children. You can make an appointment by contact phone number or on the website.
